The Structure

The next batch of content for my booklet includes the structure of the show and its episodes. The show will be tailored when writing for an hour timeslot, a.k.a. 3 acts. Each of the planned 6 episodes has a stand-alone theme and a goal that is reached by the end but also progresses the longer form story-arc of the season. The longer format of the episodes make it easier to explore and develop the continuous struggles of the characters and their conflicts while also having a lighter B plot to contrast with the main storyline. As an ensemble piece, the show has many contrasting personalities and appearances, some drift in and out of focus throughout the episodes but generally the plot is about the relationships between Grainne, Oscar and their underdog club. "Neuro-adversity" tonally is a black comedy-drama and balances serious commentary with humour but leans more towards the humorous side.

The First Page (Ideas, Decisions)

You know what they say? The first page is always the hardest. Every creative writer has been haunted by many a blank page, besieging us with its purgatory-like glare . I was lucky that I already had some creative juices flowing, some metaphorical Juicy Fruit gum to spit onto the page. I had it in the bag, or so I thought. I began writing a brief introductory pitch into my Canva document. I knew already how I was going to pitch this show as it was an idea that was very well-developed in my head. I mostly kept the first two pages simple though as the visuals might distract from the very content rich, succinct writing. I used a white page template, typical for a pamphlet, with some retro bubblegum pink cursive font for the heading. The body of the writing is in a plain black font t...

Welcome Back! + Intro to my Image Processing project

Image
So its come to this, another blog post! I know I have been truant for a very long time but my mitching has been chastened by the burgeoning task of 7 more installments for my Image-processing assignment. To make a long story short, I was happy to oblige. For my image-processing assignment I decided to make a show bible/pamphlet for the television programme I am writing called "Neuro-adversity". I began by making a funky 1960's-70's inspired cover for the book. The retro camp style of the booklet is highly indebted to the kitschy style of film director John Waters who I have mentioned on this blog before. I have become obsessed with his "trash" aesthetic and have incorporated a lot of it into my own work. It was also inspired by the artwork for Irish singer Roisin Murphy's latest album " Roisin Machine (check out my favourite song from it here) " which has a slightly classier but equally retro and chic cover. I used the font "Candice" ...
